Adam holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Edinburgh Napier University and a Masters Degree in Piano Performance from the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels. In 2017, after spending four years with the pianist Nicholas Ashton in Edinburgh, he won the university Makin Prize for excellence in Instrumental Study and Performance. In early 2018 he was the recipient of the Chopin Medal and won First Prize at the Edinburgh Piano Competition Festival. In the same year he began studying with the pianist Simon Coverdale, while also attending private lessons and Masterclasses at both the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and the Royal Northern College of Music. During this time he took lessons with renowned pianists Fali Pavri, BingBing Li, Craig Sheppard, Graeme McNaught, Norma Fisher and Petras Geniusas. In 2020, Adam travelled to Verona, Italy, to take lessons with the Internationally acclaimed Belgian pianist Jan Michiels, who then became his principal teacher at the Royal Conservatoire of Brussels, where he graduated with a Master’s degree in Piano Performance in 2024. During his studies, Adam performed Edvard Grieg’s A minor Piano Concerto, and explored a wide range of solo repertoire from Bach, to Debussy, to contemporary composers such as György Kurtag and Frank Nuyts. Chamber music was a fundamental part of his training, and he delights in this form of musical storytelling. Included in his repertoire are the cello sonatas by Debussy and Shostakovich, as well as piano trios by Brahms and Joseph Jongen. Adam has also worked with singers, and he takes great pleasure in delving head-first into the work required to understand the message behind the words - especially important for songs written in a foreign language - so as to learn how it may be communicated from the perspective of the singer and the pianist working as a unity. Now living in Glasgow, Adam is excited to contribute wherever he can to the musical life of Scotland and further afield.
