BenOnSax is a versatile and dynamic saxophonist with a passion for delivering unforgettable performances. Now based in Bristol, UK, Ben’s musical journey started at the age of eight, but his love for the saxophone truly took off when he was fifteen—a decision that shaped his future in music. With formal training at the University of Cape Town, Ben refined his technique and developed a unique style that blends traditional jazz influences with modern sounds. Inspired by legends like Stan Getz, Joshua Redman, and Michael Brecker, as well as contemporary saxophonists, his style of music lens towards a fusion of jazz, neo-soul, funk and pop. Ben’s live performances are known for their energy and versatility. Whether setting the mood at weddings and private events, collaborating with DJs for high-energy parties, or delivering soulful solos in jazz ensembles, his saxophone brings a special touch to any occasion. His experience includes playing in concert orchestras, wind bands, jazz groups, and big bands, with highlights such as performing at the Grahamstown Jazz Festival. Beyond the stage, Ben has worked with various artists, recording saxophone solos for original music, commercial projects, and albums. His approach to music is simple—connecting with people through sound. Whether it’s getting the crowd dancing, creating a relaxed atmosphere, or providing a stunning musical backdrop, his performances leave a lasting impression. Which venues have you performed at in the past?

I’m new to the UK, but I have experience performing at weddings, engagement proposals, private functions, and New Year’s Eve events. My performances set the perfect tone for celebrations, creating unforgettable moments for guests.

Which artists have you been most influenced by?

I draw inspiration from legendary saxophonists like Sonny Rollins, Grover Washington Jr., and Stan Getz. Their smooth tones and expressive playing have shaped my style, fuelling my passion for delivering unforgettable performances.

What is the most high profile gig you've performed?

One of my most high-profile gigs was performing at an extravagant Jewish wedding with an electric atmosphere and unforgettable music. I’ve also played at exclusive private events and upscale wedding receptions celebrations with incredible audiences. Each event has been special. I’m always excited to bring my music to new and memorable occasions.

What if my timings change after I've booked you?

I understand that plans can evolve, and I’ll always do my best to accommodate any changes. If your event timings shift, just let me know as soon as possible, and I’ll work with you to adjust accordingly. While major changes may be subject to availability, I aim to be as flexible as possible to ensure your event runs smoothly.

Can you provide an iPod/DJ service before and between your sets?

Yes! I can provide a playlist before and between my sets to keep the music flowing seamlessly. I offer 20 minutes of complimentary music before, during, and after my set, and for extended playlist service, there’s an additional charge. Let me know your preferences, and I’ll tailor the selection to suit the vibe of your event.

How much time do you need to set up?

I typically need around 30 minutes to set up and do a quick sound check. For larger spaces or more complex setups, I may need additional time to ensure everything sounds perfect. If your venue has specific requirements, I’ll work with the event team to make the process smooth. Let me know in advance if there are any special arrangements needed!

Can I pick the songs you play from the set list?

Absolutely! My setlist covers smooth jazz, pop classics, and upbeat funk, but you're welcome to pick your favorites. If you have a special request outside my list, just let me know at least one week in advance, and I’ll do my best to accommodate!

Do you bring all the equipment you need to perform?

Yes! I bring all the essential equipment, including my saxophone, microphone, and a PA system that requires power. If your venue has its own setup, I can easily connect to it. Just let me know your requirements in advance, and I'll make sure everything is ready for a seamless performance.

Can you learn song requests before the event?

Yes! You get two song requests for free, and any additional requests are £30 each. Just let me know at least one week in advance, but depending on the song’s complexity, I may need a bit more time to deliver the best performance.
