Who are The GFTs? The Groovy Funky Things started life in 2022, as the world of live entertainment began to reemerge from the restrictions of COVID. At formation, the aim of the band was to revisit and pay homage to the sophistication of classic US dance music from the 1970s and 80s. Although their repertoire has since expanded to include more recent material, not all of which originated across the Atlantic, The GFTs remain faithful to their origins: Only the grooviest, funkiest, danciest, anthems make it onto a GFTs setlist! Comprising 5 outstanding musicians with thousands of hours of gigging experience between them, The Groovy Funky Things are available for shows throughout the UK. Their repertoire consists mostly of classic disco, funk, and soul anthems, but they also include one or two more contemporary tunes for your guests' dancing delight. GFTs sets include songs from legendary artists like Chic, Sister Sledge, Earth Wind & Fire, Donna Summer, Whitney Houston, Gloria Gaynor, Chaka Khan, Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, and , along with more recent hits from the likes of Bruno Mars, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Spiller, and Maroon 5. The band draws upon highly trained musicians, most of whom are music graduates, and who earn all or the overwhelming majority of their income from music. Many of the band have performed both in Europe and across the Atlantic. Whatever your event, you're guaranteed the highest standards of musicianship and entertainment from The GFTs. A self contained groove machine! The Groovy Funky Things are a completely self-contained unit with their own PA and lighting equipment suitable for indoor events with up to around 200 guests, in rooms or marques up to around 300 square metres or 3200 square feet in size. This covers most hotel, wedding, and conference venues, however, the band can easily hire additional equipment if your event demands it! Do you need music between live sets? No problem, the band can easily provide a play list of suitable tracks to keep your guests moving and your party grooving, even when they're not on stage. Alternatively, why not play music from your phone or tablet via their PA system? Weddings: As a wedding band, the musicians of the GFTs realise that your special day is more than just a party. So, they’ll do everything they can to make the final stage of your celebration everything you hoped for. Groovy Funky Things’ repertoire includes songs suitable for a happy couple’s first dance. However, it might also be possible to create a custom arrangement of a song that’s special to you. Just ask at the time of booking! Corporate events, presentation ceremonies, fundraisers, and gala dinners: Groovy Funky Things is the perfect function band for any event that ends with a chance for guests to let their hair down. The GFTs repertoire of timeless dance floor anthems has universal appeal. Even those who prefer to sit it out at the back of the room will enjoy listening from their tables. Set lengths are flexible, so shows can easilly be organised around speeches, a vote of thanks, or presentations. Other useful stuff. The GFTs can set up, comfortably, on a stage/floor area of approximately 5 x 4 metres (16 x 13 feet). This includes space for front-of-house speakers, lighting stands and all other equipment. The band can squeeze into tighter spaces, but after a while everything starts to get a little cramped. All of The GFTs equipment is PAT tested annually and, while we always maintain high standards of health and safety practice, we also carry public liability insurance, just in case the worst happens.
