Nathan Smith Bioraphy 2025 From a prodigious talent performing for his school just three months after picking up a guitar, Nathan Smithhas evolved into a globally recognized musician, composer, and performer. His journey, marked by an insatiable drive for musical expression, began at 13 when he started writing original music, soon gracing national television and various stages. Early Career & Band Formations At the age of 15, Nathan co-founded the band DEAD SEA SURFERS with his brother Paddy Smith and Andrew Coleman, his father's drum student. This early venture showcased his collaborative spirit and burgeoning talent. After a decade with the band, Nathan embarked on a solo career at 25, seeking to explore his individual artistic vision. Solo Success & International Recognition Nathan's solo career quickly gained momentum, leading to performances of his original compositions and collaborative works across South Africa and internationally. A significant highlight was his involvement in the 2010 Soccer World Cup events, where his original compositions resonated with a global audience. His collaboration with Joseph Clark in "The Music of Queen" proved to be a monumental success, skyrocketing into countrywide tours and European engagements, including a sold-out stadium show for 35,000 in Holland in 2012. Session Work & High-Profile Collaborations Though initially an unplanned path, session work became a cornerstone of Nathan's career. His exceptional talent led to bookings for flagship live, recording, and TV productions, fostering collaborations with a diverse array of top local and international artists. His impressive list of collaborators includes Ronan Keating, Richard Clayderman, Wouter Kellerman, Riana Nel, Laurika Rauch, Steve Hofmeyer, and Juanita Du Plessis, among many others. Nathan's versatility also saw him as a prominent musician on renowned TV shows such as The Voice, Idols, Dancing with the Stars, Strictly Come Dancing, Dis Hoe Dit Is Met Steve, Toks en Tjops, and as a member of Die Musiek Fabriek on Noot Vir Noot. He has also shared billing with legendary acts like the Doobie Brothers, Carlos Santana, Black Eyed Peas, Damien Rice, Snarky Puppy, Eric Gales, and Beth Hart, showcasing his ability to thrive in diverse musical environments. Tribute Shows & Return to Original Music After a period dedicated to session work, Nathan reignited his passion for his own productions. In 2016, Storm Productions approached him to play the lead in Wild Frontier, a tribute to Gary Moore. He then co-produced Don't Stop Believing, a tribute to Journey, with long-time friend Warren Krige, featuring The Voice SA runner-up Josh Ansley on vocals and an ensemble of star musicians. Inspired by the guitar greats, Nathan conceived Guitar Legends, a show paying homage to the world's most iconic singing guitarists, which has successfully toured South Africa and internationally. Discography & Global Talent Original music remains at the heart of Nathan's artistic endeavor. His discography includes his solo album Songs From A Diary (2006), the experimental album The Nathan Smith Project - The Sum Of All Things(2009) with bandmates Mark Heydenrych, Paddy Smith, and Kyle Rutten, and his long-awaited album Here’s To The Now, released in May 2020. In 2021, Nathan's exceptional talent was recognized by The Arts Council England, leading to a Tier 1 Global Talent Visa to further his work in the U.K. He now resides in Greater London, continuing his remarkable musical journey.
