Victory Through Sound

Victory Through Sound emerged from the coastal creativity of Brighton in the winter of 2015, founded by Andy Vaughan (formerly of Boy Girl Soup) and Spencer Parker. Born from a shared vision to create wide-open, cinematic, and melody-driven songs, the band was conceived as a vehicle for soaring soundscapes and emotionally resonant songwriting. Their music is as expansive as it is evocative—crafted with atmosphere, anchored in melody, and driven by a sense of the epic. Vaughan and Parker spent 2016 writing and recording demos that would define the band’s unique sonic identity. Later that year, they were joined by bassist Michael Groves (Ex–Crystal Trip) and drummer Al James, solidifying the first full lineup. That same year, Victory Through Sound caught the attention of Lester Square, legendary guitarist of Adam and the Ants and The Monochrome Set. The collaboration resulted in the instrumental track “Ricochet,” and Andy Vaughan went on to feature on Lester’s solo album Serotonin. The band’s momentum continued with the release of “Circus Girl,” a striking single featuring guest lead vocals from James Atkin, Ivor Novello winner and frontman of the internationally acclaimed band EMF. This blend of powerful guest performances and the band’s own creative force propelled them onto larger stages. In 2017, Victory Through Sound made their live debut at Brighton’s globally renowned Great Escape Festival, performing in collaboration with End of the Trail Records and Fierce Panda. Their energetic and immersive live show caught the attention of the local and national scene. Subsequent high-profile support slots followed, including performances with 90s icons Echobelly and indie favourites Space, in partnership with Lout Promotions. Following a lineup change in 2022, Spencer Parker and Al James departed the band. Drummer Matt Tooke was brought in, bringing a tight, dynamic rhythm to the band’s sound, and Brighton-based guitarist Yueko Ishida joined soon after, adding new layers of melody and texture. The refreshed lineup began work on their debut album, recording across Brighton and Brixton with acclaimed drummer and producer Stephen Gilchrist (Graham Coxon, The Damned, Republica) at the helm. Set for release in early 2024, the debut album captures the band’s signature blend of grandeur and intimacy—atmospheric tracks that explore themes of distance, hope, and the universe, while maintaining a deep sense of humanity and emotional resonance. Having returned to The Great Escape Festival for a second appearance and with a growing list of shows and supporters, Victory Through Sound continues to build a name for themselves in the UK’s live music circuit. With a confident stage presence, rich sonic textures, and a catalog of powerful original material, the band delivers a 100% entertaining and immersive experience for every audience.
