Dániel Janca

Dániel Janca is a multifaceted percussionist and drummer. Dániel blends artistic ideas inspired by a broad engagement with both classical and modern music. His multifaceted solo concert programs span adaptations of Baroque music, choreographed body-percussion, mime, and improvised electroacoustic music accompanied by live visualization. Dániel's creative electroacoustic project, SUPERSONIC, is marked by an out-of-the-box approach to curating musical experiences. He plays percussion concertos, records contemporary works, formed a duo with flutist Rebeka Drahos and frequently collaborates with chamber groups and ensembles. Dániel performed at some of the foremost percussion events and renowned venues worldwide. As a soloist, he played at the 2023 Taiwan International Percussion Convention (TIPC) (Taipei, Taiwan) upon the invitation of the Ju Percussion Group, and at the House of Music (Budapest, Hungary) for the 2024 Transparent Sound New Music Festival, featuring a post-concert presentation. In collaborations, he appeared at the 2015 Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) (San Antonio, TX, USA) with Michael Burritt and the PASIC International All-star Percussion Ensemble, he was a soloist/principal of the 2024 World Percussion Group (UK, Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Denmark), and a performer at the 2024 Bang on a Can Summer Festival & LOUD Weekend (North Adams, MA, USA). In addition to performing, he is an educator, teaching percussion at the Lycée français Gustave Eiffel de Budapest and, beginning in September 2025, at the University of Pécs. He is pursuing doctoral research at the Liszt Academy of Music Budapest, focusing on adaptations of Johann Sebastian Bach’s music for percussion, with particular consideration of Bach’s own adaptations. Dániel’s training includes over fifteen years of classical percussion and over four years of jazz drum studies. This involved percussion performance and pedagogy degrees at the Liszt Academy of Music (Budapest), as well as numerous masterclasses worldwide, notably Northwestern University’s Percussion Symposium (Evanston, IL, USA), and the Croatia Drum Camp. The music that is engaging Dániel's interest is often unique in its acoustics, instrumentation, extended techniques, or possibly even a symbiosis with other art forms. His musical endeavors are frequently described as innovative and experimental. Dániel's expertise in contemporary/new music and a deepening knowledge of early music serve the dual pursuit of pioneering and nurturing traditions.
