Jazz Bands for hire in Bridgend
Latest reviews of our Jazz Bands in Bridgend

"We aren't sure where to begin with this review! We booked "What's New" sort of last-minute with only a few months until our wedding, as a previous booking had let us down. From the start they were fantastic. We communicated primarily with Sam, who was very helpful and took a lot of detail about our event. We discussed music preferences, and the atmosphere we were looking for. When Lewis (Groom) came to the outdoor ceremony space for the first time, with the band in full swing -- it was a goosebump moment! Their incredible sound, style, and professionalism blew him away. Every guest made comments upon their arrival at just how much they contributed to the atmosphere. They learned two songs for our ceremony at our request - which may have been the best versions of them we have heard to-date. Part of the job for the band at our wedding was a quick move to a second location after our ceremony. They handled it brilliantly and smoothly. They interacted well with our guests, and brought the time that they were there, to life. We seriously cannot recommend this group highly enough, and we cant wait to have another event where we use their services. 10/10 across the board. "

"We had the 2 piece piano/double bass duo play during our wedding breakfast. They turned up in plenty of time and delivered a great set that provided a perfect background to a great day. We received many compliments and were so pleased to get our passion for jazz into our day. They even used the very old grand piano at the venue!"

What instruments are in a jazz band?
A jazz band typically comprises a piano, brass instruments like trumpets and trombones, and woodwinds such as saxophones and clarinets, providing melodic richness. The rhythm section includes drums, double bass or electric bass, and occasionally a guitar, offering dynamic beats and anchoring harmonies. These instruments collaborate to create the genre's distinctive sound. In larger jazz ensembles, vibraphones, flutes, and percussion instruments might be added for complexity. Jazz's flexibility allows various instrument combinations, but the core elements of brass, woodwinds, and rhythm instruments are fundamental, enabling the genre's improvisational and expressive qualities.
How long can a jazz band play for?
Jazz band sets are typically 45-50 minutes long, with a 10-15 minute break between sets; a whole performance is often 2 hours long. The brief interval between sets allows them to gather their breath, re-tune and ultimately keep the music going for longer.
What do jazz musicians wear?
Traditional jazz bands typically dress to match the style of the music, with ladies wearing cocktail dresses or gowns and men wearing fine suits/tuxes.
What equipment do I need to provide?
The band will require a sufficient number of electrical connectors to connect all of the amplification equipment: three or four sockets should suffice. They can also require chairs without arms. Most live jazz bands will bring their own amplification, but if your location is often used for live music, they may be permitted to use the venue's existing PA system.
How much space does a jazz band need?
Jazz bands come in a variety of sizes, therefore the amount of space required will depend on the number of musicians performing. A general rule of thumb: - 1.5m x 1.5m x 1.5m for each musician - 2m × 2m for the drummer/pianist - 3m x 3m for a trio - 6m x 4m band for a 7-piece band More space is usually better than less, so talk to your venue about your space needs; they should be able to help you make sure your band is well-provided for on this front. The band will also give you an accurate estimate of how much space they'll want, taking into account equipment (whether they're utilising a PA system or lights).
How long does setup and sound check take?
A quartet takes roughly an hour, while a 7+ piece band takes about 90 minutes. This will allow them to load in their gear, warm up, and sound-check.
